When one shops on Amazon, is one unknowingly also buying an Amazon brand? Amazon's 'brands' are not called "Amazon" but rather other names, such as "Goodsport" and "Rivet."
L2 Researches shares that there are more Amazon private label brands than one may realize.
Today's WSJ shares that Wal-mart and Jet.com are moving towards more private labels. They also share the Jet.com is reducing its discounting emphasis and adding new lines like bedding.

Think Amazon has the best deals? Think again. Resellers on Amazon are often driving prices up. Items sometimes cost much more on Amazon than a brick and mortar retail store--which makes sense because "free shipping" isn't free. The article also shares stories of Amazon taking over hot product categories and creating its own private label products that will always be listed first and at lower prices.

What happens when Amazon has its own private label tableware and registry service? Does its private label items get promoted above other lines? Imagine if theknot.com had a private label tableware line. That would not bode well for indy brands.

HFN shares insights into the registry market. Using the TheKnot.com's data, HFN shares that 92% of registries are managed online. Over 80% of registries include a kitchen item, and about 26% include a fine china item. Since most registries exist at Bed, Bath and Beyond, the top casual China brand was a private label brand (Bed, Bath & Beyond).
One could conduct a similar survey amongst independent stores and one would find the leading independent store trends and brands.
